Kundan Stone Jewellery

Making a Kundan is similar to creating the Polki. Highly refined stones are delicately set on a 24-carat pure gold frame. A significant difference between both lies in how various lustrous stones and metals are carefully layered in patterns to form an elaborate piece. Making a Kundan can be difficult and time-consuming; it requires a high level of craftsmanship.

In its early days, Kundan was restricted to members of the royal family. Today, it is widely in circulation, and various alterations are being made. Thankfully, its original essence is ever preserved. The Kundan gemstone became a fashion rave in 2008 after leading Indian actress Aishwariya Rai flaunted a rare piece in the movie Jodhaa Akbar.
